EU funding for pancreatic cancer research
The European Union has become an important source of funding for scientific research for member states. The Framework Programmes for Research and Technological Development are the EU's main instruments for supporting collaborative research, development and innovations in science, engineering and technology.
The Sixth Framework Programme, covering the period 2006-2009, included a significant provision for cancer research, with the emphasis on international collaboration.
One of the areas to benefit from this funding is pancreatic cancer. Research teams from a number of member states, including the team at Barts/Queen Mary University of London supported by us, have won funding for a joint project on diagnosing pancreatic cancer. The allocation for the Barts team alone amounts to £440,000.
