Project Egghead - Sarah Montrose and Dave Tupper headshave
Sarah Montrose and her partner Dave Tupper raised over £7,000 at their 'Project Egghead' event on Sat. 27th November in Widcombe, near Bath. The event was in memory of Sarah's father, David Rosenberg, who died suddenly in July 2009, just one day after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
The decision to shave her hair held special significance for Sarah. She explained, "My family is Jewish and during a mourning period the men grow a beard as a physical manifestation of their grief, something my brother and uncle did when Dad died. Although I'm not a practising Jew, I felt I wanted to do something physical to mourn his death too, but to do something that tested me personally. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm passionate about fashion. My hair is a very important part of my 'look'. Plus, as a woman, my hair is an important part of my femininity. So there was absolutely no doubt this was going to be difficult for me. But I was determined to do something to raise awareness and money to fund research for pancreatic cancer."
After the event, Sarah said, "I was pretty calm throughout because I was focusing on my dad and how much we'd raised. Both our mums were in tears." Sarah and Dave describe the support for their fundraiser as "phenomenal and overwhelming". "Everyone was so generous and so kind, donating their time, resources and skills for free to help us reach - and smash - our target amount. We're so grateful," said Sarah.
