Wendy Thairs organised her second Beauty Day for the charity and was determined to raise £1000, to beat the £600 raised in 2006 in memory of her father.

Wendy offered 10 minute beauty treatments for £5 throughout the day, and her enthusiastic helpers - friends Lynne Barry, June Gale, Claire Metcalfe and daughter Sarah Nixon - organised the raffle and competitions, and served the cream teas.

Wendy told us, "June was a new recruit this year and we ended up calling her Delia, as she spent the day baking scones for the all-day cream teas. The other new recruit was Geoffrey, the mascot. I'm delighted to say that we beat last year's figure, with a grand total of £1,030."
