Sarah Agholor got in touch with us after her mother Jean was diagnosed
with pancreatic cancer. Sarah and other members of the family were keen to help
raise funds for more research, after learning about the lack of improvement in
survival rates.
After discussing ideas with family and friends at her local church,
Sarah decided on a musical evening that would include musical acts,
a quiz and refreshments, to be held at her local church, St. Mark’s.
She explained, "John Price, the vicar, encouraged me to announce it in church.
Although I was nervous speaking in the church, I was glad that I did, because
I gained an amazing response from the members. Many of them signed up to help
with catering and entertainment and before I knew it, the idea had developed
into something that I couldn’t have dreamed of. Kevin Baugh mobilised the
music side of the evening and Cynthia Price rallied the catering team
that were to provide an international buffet."
"My sister Rebecca and I did
the fun stuff like designing the posters and tickets, making up the quizzes
and selecting the prizes for the evening. We ended up with a total of about
eighty five people attending. The concert featured a wide variety of musical
styles from Diabelli to Simon and Garfunkel to self-penned songs by
singer/guitarist Martin Flett. We were truly blessed with some great music
performed with much spirit and dedication by the performers."
