Children's sponsored walk

Kingsland School, Stoke-on-Trent

July 2008

Pupils from Kingsland Primary School walked and ran a mile in memory of Wendy Beswick, who had been a highly popular nursery nurse and teaching assistant at the school since it opened in 2004, and at its predecessor school Marychurch Primary. Wendy died of pancreatic cancer in May 2008.

John Dickinson, a teacher at the school who organised the event, said - "All of the children who took part did very well. We're expecting the final amount to be over £1,000 when all the sponsorship money is collected in." As it turned out, the forecast was wildly out, and a magnificent £2,800 was raised.

Wendy's daughter Kate went to the school to do the walk with some of the children and to meet one boy with muscular dystrophy who had raised £80.
