Friends and family of Ruth Gestin - Karine Aubry, Rachel Fleming, Dawnn Relph and Heidi Stewart - were encouraged by Ruth to do the Great Edinburgh Run in support of the charity. Ruth herself was hoping to run, despite being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Sadly, she died just before the event. Karine, Rachel, Dawnn and Heidi joined the thousands of other runners on the day to run in memory of Ruth.

Among the other runners were Claire Johnson and Sue Douglas. Claire's grandfather Harry is currently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and both were keen to find a way to give something back, as a thank you to those helping their family. Not content with doing the run, Claire decided to encourage more sponsorship by promising to do it in a traditional Japanese nebuta yukata! After the run, Claire declared herself "quite happy" at her time of 1hr 19mins 1sec, adding, "Although I have to say my body wasn't on Monday and Tuesday. However it gave my Papa a laugh as he could move around quicker than me!!"

Sue Douglas wanted to raise funds for more pancreatic cancer research after her brother Will's diagnosis, and was "overwhelmed by the response from friends, family and colleagues."
