Howards Way Walk
Ivinghoe Beacon, Herts to Overton Hill, Wilts
April 2008
Walking and talking were the aims of the group who decided to join Howard Kerr on the Ridgeway Walk. This was to be a three day walk, Friday 18th - Sunday 20th April, covering the 87 miles of the Ridgeway between Ivinghoe Beacon in Hertfordshire and Overton Hill in Wiltshire.

Howard was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2007 and was keen to also use the event as a fundraising activity for the charity.
"Some people did the whole walk, and some joined us for parts of it", Howard told us afterwards. "On the Saturday and Sunday there were something like 40 people walking. The back-up vehicles helped a lot and there was a fantastic atmosphere. There were highs, lows, pain and emotion and I was really humbled by the attitude of everyone. The sense of comradeship was very strong - it reminded me of my army days."

A fundraising gala dinner was organised in May, bringing the total raised to an amazing £75,000. This had been Howard's target, so that a PhD studentship award could be created.
Howard died on 28th August 2008. A research award has now been made as he wished.
