Sponsored bike ride

Northampton

October 2007

Joe Robinson-Smith

Joe Robinson-Smith, at the age of fourteen, decided to do a sponsored bike ride in memory of his grandma. Joe told us: "In May 2007 my grandma was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She died at home three weeks later in June. My grandma was always there I when needed a lift or just to chat. She was great fun and still did mad things like trying to climb trees and paddling in streams".

"I wanted to do something to enable me to help other people with pancreatic cancer. I decided to do a sponsored bike ride around Sixfields Reservoir which is in Northampton where I live".

"On October 21st at 10.00am, I started my sponsored event. I wanted to see how many laps I could do in two hours. I managed 12 laps - a total of 22 miles. My family came to watch and cheer me on".

"Afterwards my legs felt a bit wobbly but that was all. I felt great as I know just my two hours of riding my bike will be able to help other people like my grandma. I raised £117.00 on my sponsored bike ride".
