"On the 7th March 2007 at 07:00 hours (04:00 GMT) my guide Joseph turned to me and said "Well done, Babu (Swahili for Grandfather - my new name all week) - you are on the top of Kilimanjaro. Therefore I got to live and fulfil my dream - which is something not many people get to do." This was how Geoff Mather told us that he had achieved his life's ambition.

Geoff funded the trip himself, but saw it as an ideal opportunity to raise funds for Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund and Derby City Hospital. Geoff's mother died of cancer of the pancreas and she was well looked after at the hospital in her last days.
