Flora London Marathon
London
April 2007
Participants in the 2007 London Marathon faced tough conditions as the weather was hot and humid. Despite this, Nick Dennison, Richard Fones, Jerome O'Leary and Maggie Stokes all finished the course, and raised nearly £7,000 for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
Nick Dennison completed the distance in 4 hours and 58 minutes, spurred on by his running mate. Nick told us, "I ran the 26.2 miles with Dom Millman, my mate from college. I'd have definitely not broken five hours were it not for Dom's encouragement in the last five miles - it was rather painful." The sponsorship raised by Nick was shared between PCRF and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Richard Fones chose to run for PCRF as a number of his friends had family members who had died from pancreatic cancer or were diagnosed with the disease. "I would like to raise people's awareness of this disease as it is one of the lowest funded diseases." Richard completed the marathon in an impressive 3 hours 37 minutes.
Jerome O'Leary completed his run in 3 hours 52 minutes. "Thanks to everyone who supported me and the Pancreatic Cancer Research charity. I must admit though that I will not be in a rush to do this one again as even walking now seems to be a problem: however, I did manage to beat Gordon Ramsay!"
Maggie Stokes was running her first London Marathon and was delighted to finish - "It took me 5 hours 12 minutes. That's very nearly a whole working day! It was very hot but the atmosphere was fantastic! I was pretty disappointed to be overtaken by a giant banana at 23 miles, though!!". Maggie shared her sponsorship between Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund and Leukaemia Research.
