Trek
Peru
September 2008
Bridget Allen decided to take on one of our overseas challenges to raise money in memory of her husband Hughie, who died of pancreatic cancer in February 2004. "It would be good to know that one day it will be possible to find an early diagnosis for this terrible disease", she told us.
Despite being a little apprehensive about raising the minimum sponsorship for the Peru trek, Bridget raised a fantastic £12,800. Giving her verdict after the trip, she said, "I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of people. Hughie touched so many hearts and is greatly missed. Peru is a beautiful country with lovely, hospitable people. I found the trek a fascinating experience, well worth doing for a number of reasons - not least, to be able to support such a deserving charity. It certainly stretched me as far as physical comforts were concerned! But there was so much support given by the tour leaders and the rest of the group, that after the initial blip of sickness due to altitude, I found the trip very worthwhile and interesting. I am so grateful to all who supported me. It was a great tribute to Hughie."
