Dobbies staff swap flower power for pedal power

16 June 2015

To celebrate its 150th anniversary, the national garden centre chain, Dobbies, undertook a mammoth fundraiser during which teams of staff from all 35 branches ‘tag-cycled’ from branch to branch around the UK.

Starting and finishing at the group’s head office in Melville, Scotland, each store chose a charity to receive the money they raised.  Staff in Milton Keynes chose PCRF in honour of their friend and former manager Godfrey Ingram, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year.

The intrepid team of 6 cycled 84 miles to the Cirencester branch on 11 June - the hottest day of the year so far – and as if that wasn’t tough enough,
team member Lenka Martinkova completed the ride whilst  4 months pregnant! Joining the Milton Keynes team was Dobbies MD Andy King and Property Director Stuart Wright from Head Office who rode the whole 84 miles with them.

Store Manager and cycle team member Dale Lewis said: “It was a really hot day and at times we were really struggling, but everyone pulled together to get us all over the line. It was a real team effort for a great cause, and well worth the aches and pains we felt the day after.”

A magnificent £1500 has been raised to date, the largest amount raised across all branches outside its Head Office.  Many thanks and congratulations to all the Dobbies Milton Keynes staff involved.
