'Nairac’s Rogue Riders' complete coast-to-coast cycle challenge

22 June 2016

Staff and business colleagues of property and retail specialists NewRiver Retail completed an epic 170-mile coast-to-coast cycle challenge on 18 June, as part of a fundraising campaign which has raised over £20,000 for PCRF.

The 25-strong team, dubbed ''Nairac’s Rogue Riders'', was formed in memory of their much-loved friend and colleague, François Nairac, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in April this year, just a few months after diagnosis.

The team included members of François’ family, NewRiver Retail, Jackson Criss, DWF, Corstorphine + Wright, Knight Frank, HSBC, Workman and Barclays.

Over three days, the team cycled the famous Way of the Roses – a gruelling 170-mile ride from Morecambe to Bridlington. NewRiver owns a shopping centre in both towns, making the event an even greater tribute to Nairac and NewRiver.

Touted as one of England’s greatest and most difficult cycle rides, the Way of the Roses inclines over 3,225 metres with brutal hill climbs, taking the scenic route through historic cities York and Lancaster and across undulating landscapes including Lune Valley, Yorkshire Dales and Yorkshire Wolds. Nairac's Rogue Riders on their way

For those unable to join the cyclists out on the road, a static bike was set up at NewRiver Retail’s London offices, where staff, partners from Bell Pottinger, CACI and Corstorphine + Wright and members of Francois family undertook a static office bike challenge,  covering the same distance as the road team.

Nairac’s Rogue Riders triumphantly ended their journey with the Way of the Roses tradition of dipping their front wheels into the sea, to the cheers of beachgoers. Nairac's Rogue Riders finish their 170-mile journey on Bridlington beach

NewRiver’s Property Director, Allan Lockhart said: “I am really proud of everyone involved in the Way of the Roses cycle challenge - it’s a true tribute to our much loved and respected colleague and friend François. We talk about ‘the NewRiver family’ and this event testifies that spirit from the team alongside our partners for Francois and Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.”

PCRF’s CEO Maggie Blanks, said: “This has been a wonderful and clever way to bring so many people together to honour François. We’re very grateful to all at NewRiver Retail for their support and I hope everyone involved is proud to know that their hard work will help us to develop new treatments so that more people survive.”
