Peer Review for Grant Applications

Shortlisted applications are sent to at least two researchers whose specialism is in the area of the application. A standard form is used detailing the criteria for assessment, which the reviewer is asked to score as well as give their comments. The form includes a statement for the reviewer to confirm they do not have a conflict of interest. The scores and comments made by the external reviewers are then made available to the Scientific Advisory Panel members.

Scientific Advisory Panel meeting

Each application is allocated to two Panel members, based on their areas of expertise. The two members present the application to the Panel, along with the assessment from external reviewers. After discussion the Panel members give their individual score for the aplication. When all applications have been discussed, applications are ranked by their average score and recommendations for funding are made based on the ranking.
