Cheers! New beer in Jim’s memory to raise funds for research

Warwickshire craft brewery Purity Brewing Co has launched a new cask beer called JIMBO in tribute to co-founder Jim Minkin who died of pancreatic cancer in June this year – and 5p of every pint sold will be donated to PCRF.

James Minkin, affectionately known as Jimbo, co-founded the award-winning Purity Brewing Company in 2005 with friend Paul Halsey. A qualified accountant by trade, Jim had a huge passion for brewing and in the Purity’s early days was Head Brewer, responsible for their first beers.

Purity will donate 5 pence from every pint of JIMBO sold to Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund (PCRF) in the hope that some good can come out of the devastating loss of their close friend and colleague. Since Jim’s death, Purity, along with the Minkin family have already raised over £4000 for PCRF.

JIMBO is a classic British Best Bitter brewed to showcase the very best in British and locally sourced ingredients. It uses Emperor hops developed by Purity’s friends at hops supplier Charles Faram, and grown locally. Charles Faram asked the Minkin family to name the new hops in Jim’s honour. The chosen name reflects Jim’s fascination with Roman history after finding a number of Roman coins when excavating for Purity’s wetland system in 2005 (the wetland system ensures that effluent from the brewing process is filtered out so that only pure clean water is deposited into the River Arrow).

Paul Halsey co-founder and CEO said “This has been a tough year for everyone with the global pandemic and the sad news of my best friend Jimbo. I am incredibly proud of the beer we’ve created and I know that Jimbo would have been proud of the team and what they’ve produced. Jim’s passing has left a huge hole in the Purity Family – we hope that this beer does him justice and leaves a legacy as big as Jim’s heart and passion for Purity.”

Maggie Blanks CEO of Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund added: “We’re hugely grateful to the Purity team for fundraising in memory of Jim. It’s a perfect tribute to him to know that buying a pint of JIMBO will not only help us to fund the very best research, but also raises a glass to Jim’s memory.”

While JIMBO will initially be released in cask only, a limited release of 5L mini casks will be available to buy via Purity’s online shop and selected retailers towards Christmas.
